Winds and Waves Session 7

One of the best things about being a DM and a writer is getting to do foreshadowing… This whole scene from Session 7 between Aeroki and Akuji (two of my NPCs) is possibly one of the best examples of that.

The absolute INSANE amount of foreshadowing in this interaction! Let me break it down:

Akuji calls Aeroki “Your highness”, referring to his title as king of Maya. Immediately Aeroki humbles himself,

“You needn’t call me that… In the Goddess of Fate’s grand tapestry, I am far beneath a Reaper.”

“It is a title of respect. One that you have more than earned in the eyes of the Raven Queen herself.”

The king mutters something to himself quietly,

“Gotten, ich wünschte ich glaube das auch.”

(Gods, I wish I could believe that too)

This is of course referring to the fact that Aeroki doesn’t believe the Gods care about him, and moreover the fact Aeroki feels betrayed by the Gods in general. When Akuji soothes that even The Raven Queen still respects Aeroki, and that Aeroki has earned his place as king of Maya, Aeroki basically flat out rejects the sympathy.

When Akuji tries again to reassure Aeroki that the Raven Queen will protect Coral and her friends on their journey, Aeroki once again scoffs, because The Raven Queen is the Goddess of Death and therefore her ‘protection’ is a death sentence. Akuji immediately stiffens and retorts,

“Death has existed as long as mortals have lived, long before the Raven Queen even gained her own godhood.” He replies almost sternly, defensively. “We do not cause the deaths to occur, we simply collect the lost souls and lay them to rest…”

Death has existed long before the Raven Queen, because it was The Vulture who once commanded death. The Raven Queen herself used to be a mortal. Once The Vulture fell from his place in the Pantheon and disappeared, the Raven Queen took his place, but the balance between life and death has been broken ever since.

“You know this, Aeroki. You have seen it for yourself.”

After adopting Coral, Aeroki briefly worked alongside Akuji, helping the Reaper to collect lost souls and rescue any survivors, as self-inflicted penance for his crime of summoning The Lich King. But this is also an incriminating statement, suggesting that Aeroki knows more about the Vulture’s downfall.

“And that is precisely why I cannot let Coral leave Maya… There are many great evils in the world...”

“But, if you do not let her explore the world for herself, how will she ever learn to protect herself against those evils? How will she gain the courage to fight against her own?”

The line, “How will she gain the courage to fight against her own? (evils)” is a direct reference to the fact that Akuji knows about Coral’s curse, as well as how to stop it. He is basically saying, “You have been way too overprotective and Coral is suffering from it. She needs to go out and live her life to the fullest before the curse completely consumes her. Akuji is once more encouraging Aeroki to let Coral and the others find The Heart of the Sea here, because he knows that it can help her.

Aeroki sighs. “You’re right… I know I cannot keep her sheltered here forever… But is it really selfish of me to want to try?”

Oh, my son. He wants to keep his daughters safe from harm, and in his mind Maya is the safe haven that he built for them. And yet, he knows that every bird must leave the nest eventually. He knows deep down that he has to let Coral and Fringille go. And what’s worse is he realizes that the best way to protect them is by sending them away from himself.

“You have already thought long and hard about this choice… Why, then, did you come to see me?”

“Because you know…”

“You know better than anyone why I cannot let her go.”

He’s trying to prove to himself that he can let Coral and Fringille spread their own wings and be on their own, and yet, he also doesn’t want to lose the only family he has left.

“But you must. She must. The darkness…”

AKUJI KNOWS. AKUJI KNOWS THAT AEROKI HAS NO SOUL. HE KNOWS ABOUT THE CURSE. But AEROKI DOESNT KNOW HE KNOWS.

Remember, Aeroki was convinced that if Akuji ever found out that he was The Fallen Champion, Akuji would have to kill him.

Akuji is basically admitting that he knows about Aeroki’s curse as well. That’s why Aeroki gets so freaked out here.

Then the rest is just Akuji and Aeroki basically making excuses to end the conversation and do their separate shady business, but all the same Akuji reassures Aeroki that he is always welcome in the Raven Queen’s Court… Don’t forget that.

“Thank you Akuji. I won’t forget that.”

Pause. Fast forward to Session 66:

“No, I guess I didn’t think at all.”

He forgot. Aeroki forgot that Akuji basically promised to be there for him no matter what, because he was convinced by his own anxiety that Akuji would literally kill him if he ever knew the truth about what Aeroki did…

But as this entire passage shows, Akuji already knew, and he offered Aeroki his protection anyway.

thinking on it more re: the future of the syndicate. that honestly would not be a bad starting point for a post-sriv rewrite story. bc the whole theme of ashes to ashes is about the past coming back to haunt you and going back to where things began. so it makes a lot of sense for the story after that to be about the future. maybe something along the lines of one of the syndicate’s competitors or partners or something coming for the saints bc their takeover messed some shit up. and this would also allow the saints to start interacting with the international criminal underworld.

damien may be self-centered. but, he IS a sweet and broken boy. he really needs some to guide him throughout his struggles. will he ever admit it? NO. he hates the idea of being saved. his brother was the one who did the most for him in the family. making sure he ate and got to school on time. akuji took that place in his adult life. they are highly manipulative and they know what damien wants to hear. they've seen his memories. they know what he needs. pretending to protect him and listen to his issues, he was bound to be attached to them.

Is it only me that interpreted the anon’s ask as “What would Jaxon’s relationships be with the other ocs?”

Though what are people’s thoughts on shipping one’s oc with other people’s ocs? I know some peeps write self-inserts so I think it may be a bit weird to ship those specific characters with others’ characters.

I tend to find it a bit fun to ship ocs with others’/friends’ ocs since they’re little fictional characters and as long as other people it’s for silly fun and not going to become canon for that character’s story.

Little bit sad that this was asked by an anon since I would like to ask for some clarification on their question to Ryker. Do they want to see Jaxon’s romantic feels for these ocs or are they asking for the ocs romantic feels on the twst cast? I haven’t received any asks regarding Bobo’s romantic interests and I don’t really plan to explain my ideas on it unless someone would really like to know.

Though since it was an ask sent by anonymous, I guess it’s possible they haven’t seen this since well… can you get notified if you have an account yet chose anonymous ask?

Was the other world question supposed to be like “Would these two have something romantic together in a different timeline(/au)?” Or was it actually a question about different world settings? It’s a little bit funny how I’ve completely interpreted the question differently.

Or at least I’m assuming they could possibly be asking for romantic feelings specifically since Ryker has done posts where Jaxon shares his opinions/general feels about other peeps ocs. Though maybe anon didn’t see and has actually mistaken others’ ocs as Ryker’s as well.

Different worlds did remind me that there’s still a key thing I want to figure out before explaining the gist of the world Bobo comes from.

I’m completely open to getting asks for Bobo and CatMask! One clarifications for any that don’t know, CatMask and Bobo are in different versions of Twisted Wonderland, they will not be interacting with each other.

For your “other relationships with Jaxon” posts, what about the ocs? Like Karrigan, Yuli, Fuyuki, Bobo, etc?

Even if it’s not canon, what do you think in another world for Jaxon and them to be like?

AKUJI'S SATOSUGU ANALYSIS (PT.1)

In part one, I'll discuss a few things regarding symbolism and metaphors surrounding the two and how they complement each other. As much as I loathe Akutami, I do admire their symbolism surrounding the cast of JJK.

BLACK AND WHITE, LIGHT AND DARK

I feel like this is a prominent thing in the SatoSugu shippers to associate SatoSugu with black and white, myself included. Whenever I see black and white, I get SatoSugu PTSD. This is really what my life has come to, LOL.

Let's put Satoru as the Light and Suguru as the Dark. ( This is something I love because of how light and dark exist. One cannot be without the other, yet when light is present — dark cannot be. And when dark is present, light cannot be. Sound familiar? Yep, it's them.

We know they both probably wanted to be together but their ideals set them apart. Dark will always exist opposite to Light, and Light would always exist opposite to Dark. But they cannot be defined without each other.

And it does align with what they do become because Satoru became the Light of Jujutsu Society, they had hope because of him. When Satoru enters the scene to save the day, sorcerers are relieved, sorcerer feel safe. When he got sealed, everything fell apart, it just shows how much Jujutsu Society relied on him and trusted him to resolve everything. He taught the new generation of sorcerers, he guided them towards a new future, like a sort of guiding light.

Suguru on the other hand, he consumed the worst in the world, curses. He was confronted by the vile taste of curses every time he consumes one and after Riko Amanai's death, he was faced with the cruelty of the system, the darkness of the world. He despised the likes of people like Toji who are willing to assassinate an innocent teenage girl purely just for money. And, Toji didn't even need to kill Riko, he heard them talk, Riko wasn't even going to become Tengen's new vessel.

The whole experience with Toji changed the duo, but for Suguru, it hurt that he fought with everything he had to avenge Satoru but was left there barely living as a failure only to find his best friend completely changed to the point where he was going to kill all of the humans who were applauding them. Although he convinced Satoru they should be spared, I don't think Suguru himself thinks they deserve to live. The applauds haunted him, I'm sure he was utterly disgusted a room of adults were celebrating the death of an innocent, young girl.

The scene with depressed Suguru, we hear rain outside but if you listen carefully, they sound more like claps, like the ones he has heard back with the Cult. (also, it's funny to me that he started his own cult after being traumatised by one.)

Suguru genuinely wanted to create a world for the weak but after what happened, it's safe to say he stopped considering non-sorcerers as the weak. He already had a theory that sorcerers weren't the problem but non-sorcerers and that mindset drove Suguru mad, paired with the curses he consumes which are manifestations of the negative parts of humanity. The only way for Suguru to move forward with his life is to eradicate all non-sorcerers. He refused the other path because to him to choose non-sorcerers at this point would be to accept more people like Toji, the people in Star Religious Group and the people in the village who threatened Mimiko and Nanako.

Wow, there's a lot for Suguru's part, haha.

Black and White, Light and Dark— or whatever similar. They fit. I could compare them to Yin and Yang, but I don't fully understand its meaning so, I won't.

CURSED TECHNIQUES

I also love what their cursed techniques represent in each other. And how it ties into the story.

Suguru's cursed technique manipulates cursed spirits after consuming them. Consume, which is the first thing we see him doing in the opening of Hidden Inventory. He's a consumptive force, because he consumes the responsibility of protecting the weak.

Satoru on the other hand, repels. He's an outward force, extending out a physical barrier that creates distance between his body and the world. The Infinity and Reversal Red that repels and disconnects him from the people around him. Satoru repelled the idea of protecting the weak, actively discarding them during HI's basketball scene.

Can I point out how the scene after Star Religious group makes sense now? Blue attracts, it's a consumptive force, Suguru leaned into it. Red repels, Satoru stepped into red. It just really enhances their characters further…ah, remind me how much I love this animanga.

Satoru focused on becoming the Strongest and rejected everything else. Suguru consumed the negative emotions and trauma, leading him to go mad to the point killing all non-sorcerers could be the only way he could live with himself.

They're really meant to be together because consumption can only exist if there's a repellant force pushing back. They're not opposites, I will say. Both Satoru and Suguru contain parts of each other within each other. Sort of like Yin and Yang, but again I don't fully understand Yin and Yang enough to do a full analysis of them associating with Yin and Yang.

I think I will conclude the cursed technique analysis here because trying to understand cursed techniques in JJK…it burns my brain. Especially with those powerscalers.

"You're Late, ..."

This was done multiple time for them, and ugh it pains me.

Yup, this one right here, this motif foreshadows the tragedy of Satoru and Suguru's love story. 

We see Suguru running through the rain urgently. He so desperately needs an umbrella. Satoru? Well, you can see he's wasting time looking at a cat...he's not hurrying at all. But he has what Suguru needs, an umbrella. Well, Satoru didn't even need an umbrella.

Suguru is waiting impatiently in the rain, and he's not using his bag to cover up his head anymore. He knows Satoru is coming; that's why he's impatient.

Suguru needs him, but Satoru doesn’t pick up the pace.

By the time he finally shows up, the sun has come out. By then Suguru has accepted the fact that Satoru took too long. They can’t share the umbrella any more because they missed their chance to use it.

“You’re late, Satoru.”

And you all know what follows up...

Also a little bonus:

Those are osmanthuses.

The name Osmanthus comes from the Greek language, Osma(fragrant) and Anthos(flower), literally meaning Fragrant Flower. Osmanthus flowers are a symbol of love and romance, blooming for only a few days in the Spring, and are celebrated during wedding ceremonies and the Chinese Moon Festival in August

The animators shipped them, you cannot convince me otherwise.

This was supposed to be longer, and I do want to continue it but again, I'm tired to continue. Kind of lost motivation and my initial ideas poofed already.

Get what you deserve

⚠️Warning: Death, Descriptions of Dying, Gore (?)⚠️

There on the floor of the green forest laid a broken figure illuminated by the moonlight. Twitching, he could barely move, pain shot through his body. Shadows dance around him, playing tricks on him. Forming familiar silhouettes approaching, striking that sense of terror again in him. It was like the forest was mocking him, laughing at him. He desperately gasps for air, his chest rising up and down rapidly, his crimson red eyes wide with fear.

"Oh, Akuji. Now, you have done it." He thought to himself, weakly lifting his neck up to inspect the damage but it didn't budge. He had tried to avoid looking at it since those damn leaf-eaters crippled him. If you had just sticked with stealing eggs, you could have remained unharmed. But noooooooo, you had to get greedy and go after the little ones too.

Finally, he manages to lift his neck up slowly and he begins to inspect his underbelly. He winced at the look, it was all dent and swollen, painfully squished. It shouldn't have surprised him, given the blow and pressure applied on his body by that Treehorn. That stomp put an end to the fight he had with the grownup of the hatchlings. He tried to run, he was outnumbered and outpowered, but they cornering him from all sides.

His neck collapses to the ground once more, having no strenght to keep it lifted. His skin and feathers, already as white as the Night Circle on the sky, somehow got even more pale. Or that was how he felt it getting. He shifts slightly and attempts to get up, but movement just caused him more unsufferable pain. He hisses, his breath rapid and shallow. He felt his insides squeezed and squashed, blood flooding both his guts and the green grass surrounding him.

Oh Akuji, when will you learn? You have pushed your luck for far too long and now, look at what it has gotten yourself into. On the brick of death, barely moving, your spin broken at best, with no one by your side. Suffering knowing you could have done better in your cruel attempts at survival. A voice lamented in his head.

The all-white Egg Stealer coughs wetly, red bubbling past his sharp beak. His gaze looks up at the night sky, the stars giving him a sense of calmness, distract himself from the pain. Look at anything but the blood-soaked earth underneath him. What good were all his years of perversion and cruelty. He had spent his whole life feeding off the fear of others, only to fall prey to his own arrogance. And now, he has to live his last moments with his worst nightmare; a slow and painful death.

The sensation of the red liquid filling his lungs, depriving him from oxygen. His heart, previously beating wildy, begins to falther. It made him feel anxious, each beat reminding him of the little time he has çeft. His glowing eyes become heavy as if keeping them open took a lot of strenght. Haunting memories began to drift in like the fog that blanketed the forest floor, each one more treacherous than the last.

He closes his eyes, immersing himself in the soothing embrace of darkness. It's just for a moment, his body sore and aching immensely. Slowly drifting off, a bit of rest could do him no harm, could it? Even if it was only for a fleeting moment? The pain is unbearable, and the stillness of the forest only amplified the thundering silence of his impending doom. Darkness wraps around him, washing over the feelings of dread and regret, however he persists.

"Don't fall asleep, idiot!" He scolded himself internally, the fatigue pulling insistently at his weary body, his eyes jolting open. "If you sleep now, you won't have the energy to wake up again."

But he couldn't help it, he's tired and exhausted, there's no point in resisting. Even if he somehow survived, there was no way he was going to recover from his injuries. He could die either way. The darkness felt so invitation and it brought a sense of comfort, it put him at ease. He could scarcely protest it; darkness lured him closer, a soothing balm against the agony he could no longer endure. And so, with one last draw breath, his body relaxes. His chest stills, his eyes lose their spark and his life slips away from him. There's no more subtle twitching, no more movement, no more raspy breaths, no more sound, no more thoughts. Just eternal silence. He met his end forsaken and alone, just as he had lived.

Weapons: Thin dagger

Powers: After being experimented on by Adrienne and Quan Chi, Saturnine acquired the power of Miasma and Dream Eating.

-Miasma: Saturnine developed special glands in his throat that, when activated by jutting his jaw a certain way, can emit a vapor from his mouth that causes others to hallucinate. This effect can only work for a limited time, but it lasts long enough for Saturnine to attack with his dagger.

-Dream Eater: Saturnine can use his miasma power to cause others to fall asleep and manipulate their dreams, healing himself by cause his victim distressing nightmares.

Personality:

Personality: Morose, quiet, reticent. Saturnine tends to keep to himself, and speaks with as little words as possible, preferring solitude. His loyalty to Havik and Darrius is unmatched, and will follow them to whatever end.

Motivations: Revenge on a certain higher caste family. The destruction of Seido.

Fears: Being enslaved again. He would rather die before letting that happen.

Hobbies: Books, trying to read. Loves poetry, fairy tales, mythology. Especially the one his lover left behind.

Family: Doesn’t remember them. He was taken away as a young boy.

Backstory:

Born into the lowest caste in Seido, Akuji has been a slave since day one. With his hunched shoulder and thin appearance, he was deemed undesirable by the higher castes. His parents were forced to leave him behind when they were sold to another family. He has had the same master since birth, being forced to sleep in the stables and slop around animal feces.

Solitude was his friend, as were the animals he tended to. When the master has guests over, he keeps his head down and drowns out the cruel words the nobles call him. Speaking up only gets you hurt, as he saw what happened to the others that came before him.

Everything changed when his master passed and he was sold to another family. There he met Hikaru, the master’s third son, whose charming demeanor shined brighter than the sun. Hikaru took interest in Akuji. Constantly asking him questions, bringing him fresh foods, and his favorite, reading to him. He loved to hear the noble man’s voice, quickly falling in love with the man’s beautiful personality, but would never let him know. His imagination run wild as he got lost in Hikaru’s stories.

Poems, at first, frustrated Akuji, preferring people to say what they mean instead of speaking in flowery words and metaphors. Fairy tales, myths and legends, tales of heroics, were more fascinating. Hikaru would smile and ask him what his favorite story was, and that’s when Akuji revealed that he couldn’t read, but he enjoyed every story Hikaru read to him. The noble son was determined to teach him. Day turned into weeks, as Hikaru took the painstaking task of teaching to read.

One time, Akuji was cleaning Hikaru’s study, and stopped for a moment to try to read a book that was left open on his desk, not knowing the importance of it. When Hikaru’s eldest brother, Takeo catches him and accuses him of trying to steal family secrets. Takeo brings him before the Master and Lady of the house, demanding his head for treason. Hikaru pleaded with his father, explains that he was teaching Akuji how to read and that he was only curious.

The Master was disgusted that his son would waste his time teaching him to read. “Might as well teach an ant politics, it’s a concept that would do no good, neither benefit them.” As punishment, the Master demands Takeo bring him Akuji’s ear, and to never set foot in the house again. “The saturnine mongrel will sleep outside where he belongs.”

Hikaru checked on him the next few days, while Akuji pleaded for him to not come near him. He couldn’t stand for someone so handsome, so bright, to see him disfigured. More importantly, he doesn’t want Hikaru to be punished if he was seen around him.

Hikaru admits to finding Akuji beautiful just as he is, he always has. And he would do anything to prove it to him. The noble man takes Akuji away from the stable in the middle of the night, to a secluded area. Away from the guards, away from society and anybody that could find them, and they make love.

Weeks later, Hikaru is betrothed to a young woman from another higher caste family. It breaks Akuji’s heart, but he regretfully accepts the reality.

Until Hikaru comes to him in the dead of night, telling him he broke off the engagement and her family is trying to take revenge. They need to get out of the city tonight, with the help of Havik and Darrius. Hikaru explains that these two men are leading a rebellion against Seido’s government, and are willing to help Akuji and him escape.

As they escape, they get ambushed by Seidan guards and Hikaru forces the two men to take Akuji away while he fights them off. Akuji screams as he watches the man he loves get cut down.

Havik and Darrius bring Akuji to the sorcerer, Quan Chi, and the witch, Adrienne. Providing them shelter and a means to eventually topple Seido’s government, given that they are allowed to experiment on the three of them to provide powers that will aide them.

Akuji agrees, not seeing what the downside would be. If he dies, he will rejoin his lover.

Adrienne makes a concoction infused with ectoplasm and her tarantula familiar’s venom, and painted sigils on his body with her shadow magic. It took days for him to recover, but eventually he gained the powers of Miasma and Dream Eating.

Looking through the bag Hikaru gave him before he died, he finds the book of poems and stories he would read to him. He guards it like his life depends on it.

He forgoes the name Akuji, that name belonged to his beloved and him alone. He chooses the name Saturnine, and Seido will pay for what they have done.

as for the story Im gonna be real I'm like. so itching to just infodumb everything about it but on the other hand I like the air of mystery

What I'm gonna say though is, this original story of mine has major themes of psychological horror, fake realities, memory altercation and memory loss.

Akuji doesn't like talking about it, but Rey knows something is wrong. She just can't quite place why.

How exactly did Lin survive?

this is something i actually don’t think i’ve been asked to elaborate on so i’m more than happy to! her survival plays out like this:

she gets shot clean through the abdomen. sharp fires a second shot at anteros, but it only ends up grazing his side and he’s not as immediately hurt as she is. the car is dumped, and they manage to free themselves as they’re sinking. they get the trunk open, and anteros is okay enough to reach the surface. lin, however, has lost a lot of blood. anteros searches for her but can’t see anything in the water. she’s not responding when he calls out her name. he’s freaking out (even though the last thing lin said to him was to not panic), but realizes that sharp is still nearby and makes the difficult decision to leave so he can kill him.

lin ends up washing up away from where they were dumped. she’s barely alive, but ends up being found by wong and his associate. they’d always been keeping a silent but close eye on the price-sharp family (the rollerz in general, really. recommend checking out my several posts on the history of the price-sharp/akuji families in stilwater), and after watching what sharp had done, they originally wanted to make sure their hitman, anteros, was alright. however, they recognize lin as a partner of anteros/the saints, and hurry to save her.

so she gets taken back their place, treated by one of wong’s personal doctors, and eventually wakes up in an unfamiliar room. wong and his associate return and explain who they are, how they know anteros and the saints, and what happened. they did some digging on lin and realized what an asset she could be, especially if she was “dead.” also consider it a means of “repayment” for saving her life.

essentially the triad dumped the body that got identified as lin the next morning, and get lin to start doing work for them. you know how useful it is to have a hitman/undercover agent who is legally dead. also helps bc not too long later anteros dies so. they’re Actually out of a hitman. so lin does work for the triad in and around stilwater for the next several years. it’s during this time that you’d hear urban legends about the ghost or zombie of lin. ppl who swear they’ve seen her. troy had been actively interested in the case of lin’s death bc they never actually let him see the body (the triad paid off the medical examiner) and so he’s been very suspicious of it but can’t really make enough of a case to reopen the file. also by this point he’s become way more obsessed w the yacht incident but lin never left his mind.

anyway that’s the basics of it! then she returns for real in my sriv to take out the rollerz once and for all. you could say she’s still a lil mad about it.

Taking a smol break

Hey guys, nothing big happening or anything here. I'm just going to be taking the next couple weeks to focus on school work since I have a lot to do! So I'll still be active but I won't be posting any new works of mine.

Don't fear, I'll be back around the 18th because classes will be over then! When I get back I have a short story to write, some requests, the next piece of Jaxon lore, and even an event around the 25th so stay tuned for those!
